The aim of the thesis was to calculate visibility analysis for the best observation points in the district of Olomouc. The main prerequisite for quality visibility analysis is a sufficiently accurate digital terrain model with addition of buildings and vegetation.
Two variants of DTM were developed, first for summer and second for winter season. These variants differ in liner vegetation permeability. Liner vegetation was created by digitalization of the orthoimagery and then added to the DTM.
Fourty observation points were determined. If the point represents technical or sacral building, height of the observer matches height of the building. However, if the point represents natural place, visibility was calculated from elevation, but also from heights of 8, 15 and 30 meters. The analysis shows the change of visibility in the case of building a lookout tower of this height.
Primary objective of the thesis was visualization of the results in a user-friendly and attractive form. Google Earth and Google maps API were chosen as the best visualization methods. In the case of Google Maps, user can see description and photographs of the observation point. Access to the results of visibility analysis is mediated by the JavaScript form.
Google Earth allows more functionality, and includes also panoramatic images and 3D models of lookout towers.
Both forms of visualization are easily accessible by public through website which was created for the purpose of the thesis. The website also includes instructions how to use the application and video-clips which show the same in more interesting form.
Author hopes that the results of the thesis will be useful for the promotion of the Olomouc region.
