Viewing "Views of Olomouc" is very simple. There are two ways to access this data. In addition to this manual can become familiar with the functionality via a few short videos in section Samples.
Google Maps API
To view the content through Google Maps API, you does not need to install anything, the data is displayed in a browser window.
After click to API in upper menu of this webpages, you will see the Google map, in which we can switch on and off a layers of observation points and boundaries. Click on the point in the map to see its basic information and photo gallery. Click on each photo will to open it in a new window.
To view the results of the analysis we will use form below the map. We can specify the observation point, the height of the observer and the season and if we want to see a circles of visibility. After clicking, the checkboxes appears to us that we can use it to turn the layers on and off.
At the top of the map, we can switch the underlying maps. If you select Earth, you must have Google Earth API plugin installed on your PC.
Speed of loading layers visibility analysis is dependent on the speed of Internet connection.
Google Earth
Browsing through Google Earth is a faster, more user friendly, and we can see the panoramic photos and 3D models of lookout towers. However, it is necessary to have Google Earth 5.0 and higher installed.
The first step is to download a KMZ file (available via the section Download in upper menu. This file contains a point layer of observation points, which means we have access to all other data. Simply click on the selected point on the map and in the window that appears just choose what we want to see. What else can be seen, we see in the picture.
If a picture is grey, it means that this item is not available for this layer.
In addition to information related to individual items, can be also displayed one of three visibility analysis calculated for the whole district. These layers are church and the city skyline visibility. This data is available through the same KMZ file in section "Dalsi vrstvy". Map of visibility of churches expresses how many churches is visible from each point in district of Olomouc.
